November Papercutting & Book-making

It’s workshop time again, this time with Embrace Arts in Leicester where I facilitated two short two-hour workshops over a fortnight in papercutting and concertina book-making. These workshops were actually run by the Leicester arts collective Nineteen Degrees that I am a member of…however, after this series of Wednesday evening workshops, ND will no longer be. Such a shame but good reason as to why.

Only a handful of a participants attended over the two sessions…one girl Jiajie actually came twice bringing her friend Jovan for the second session where we chatted about China, China life and Mandarin-Chinglish-English language (wishing I spoke Mandarin well)…and a lady called Louise who I had been speaking to via email prior to the session who brought along cloth and ribbon to use including a great linen-type fabric with a nice owl/fox illustrative design. As you can see below, some very beautiful works were made. Apologies for a few poor shots, my camera is on its last legs…the LCD screen flickers beyond belief and the brightness and colour contrasts are coming out all wrong! The hunt for a new camera is such a difficult task…the one I currently have I bought in Hong Kong. Any suggestions please let me know!

Embrace Arts is a venue I had not worked with before, so it is always great to be able to share skills in new places. It is actually part of the University of Leicester, where I studied for my Masters degree in Art Museum and Gallery Studies, so I was actually somewhat familiar with what they do. Thank you to Jiajie, Jovan and Louise for coming and taking part…I hope to see you all again at another workshop. On with Winter…and the final stages of my PhD.
